Merryl Tisch Hosts "Women For Thompson" Fundraiser On June 12 - Weingarten To Attend

If anybody still thinks the UFT is endorsing anybody but Bill Thompson or mayor, take note of this news:

Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch is hosting a June 12 breakfast to promote Democrat Bill Thompson's appeal for women voters, as you can see from the invite below.

Other stand-out names on the host list: Longtime NAACP activist Hazel Dukes, UFT-turned-AFT leader Randi Weingarten and Katuria D'Amato, wife of the Republican former senator, who's been doing a lot of fundraising for the ex-comptroller. Tisch and former Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum zoomed to Thompson's defense this week after Democratic frontrunner (and lone female mayoral candidate) Chris Quinn dinged him for embracing the ex-senator, a man she bashed as "anti-woman... anti-choice, anti-Medicare, and anti-civil rights."

Merryl Tisch, Randi Weingarten and Al D'amato's wife raising funds for Bill Thompson.

Tells you everything you need to know about what kind of mayor Bill Thompson will be.

Good reason to oppose him in his race for City Hall.

You can bet the UFT, following Weingarten's lead as usual, will endorse Thompson too.

    1. Not so strange, really. They're all on the same side looking to screw working people - the corporate shill union leader, the wife of a right wing former senator and a socialite.

  3. When UFT rank and file do not Vote MORE often, they are beshatted upon by Mulgrew and Weingarten.

    1. Agreed. And that's going to keep happening until the rank and file finally dispense with the current leadership and replace them with MORE.

  4. Why the fuck didn't Weingarten support him 3 years ago....?
Ya really can't make this shit up....

    1. Great point - they support him now when there is a better candidate, a more progressive candidate, that they could support. And I don't mean Liu (although my heart is with him.) I mean de Blasio, who is intentionally trying to run as the progressive, labor-friendly candidate. SEIU 1199 just endorsed him - but the UFT? Looks like they'll endorse Tisch's candidate.

  6. Is NYSUT pushing their bogus rally on June 8th to NYC teachers too or are they trying to get the rube vote out of western NY? I want to go there with a big sign that says Give Gates Back His $500.000 and tell Weingarten to do the Same. Wouldn't it be a riot if all the peons showed up and hooted Ianuzzi off the stage?

    1. Great point, Sean. The NYSUT and AFT pushback on Common Core, APPR, etc. are such horseshit. Unfortunately, if you're not paying close attention, then you don't know that the NYSUT and AFT pushbacks are horseshit. You read the stories in the union propaganda papers they send every month and think, "Well, they're really trying to defend us..." when the reality is, they are collaborating with Gates, Bloomberg, Tisch, King, Cuomo, Duncan, Obama et al. to destroy us.

  7. Yep, I'm convinced UFT will go Thompson - based on some inside info indications looked like de Blasio a month ago but he moved to far "left" as Peter Goodman framed him, the kiss of death in the UFT. UFT motto is better dead than red.

    1. Once Quinn started to drop in the polls, I thought they would endorse Thompson. He's an establishment candidate, which they like, he has a shot to win (a much better shot now with Quinn dropping and all that corporate and Wall Street cash piling up in his coffers), and they want to pick a winner. After '01 when they endorsed three losers, they need to pick this race right. Thompson was the logical (though IMO wrong) choice for the endorsement.

It will be interesting to see how the 1199 endorsement helps de Blasio and if that brings any of the other unions out to endorse him as well.

  8. I have felt it was Thompson all along which is a better choice than Quinn. Does his knowledge of the old Board of Education help or hurt if Thompson wins?

    1. I'll repeat this - Thompson is different from Quinn the way Michael Bolton is different from Kenny G. Different tenor, different sound - but the same bad shit.
